This Spring semester we have 12 interesting projects.

Batting Analysis System
 

Batting Analysis System is an innovative product for tracking, assisting and improving the batting technique in baseball players. The System uses digital image processing on real time video of a batting swing to determine angles on the player legs, this information is manipulated by an algorithms that concludes on the technique of the player. This project is a cooperative design of students from the Electrical Engineering department at University of South Florida and Universidad del Norte .

Engine WSN

Performance objectives of this project are to develop a wireless sensor network that is able to relay data from three selected sensors back to the ECM.  The

individual sensors will be queried via a microcontroller with a transceiver attached.  Frequent and consistent querying of the sensors is necessary in order to provide correct and up to date information to the ECM, thus this is another important performance objective.  The components must be able to withstand the high temperature environment of the car engine along with a significant amount of vibration.

Haptic Ball
 

While visual and audible clues can provide information about surroundings, these may require conscious awareness or faculties which are not available. Passive touch typically does not require conscious monitoring and has the benefit of expanding sensory bandwidth. This prompted development of the Haptic Ball, a sphere—having a single point of ground contact—which can detect and replicate surface texture with minimal time delay.

Intelligent Surge Protection Device

The Intelligent Surge Protector Device will be designed specifically for critical protection applications. The end user will be able to install the product at the service entrance of Main Distribution Panels, secondary distribution panels or directly at critical loads. This product will have the capabilities of connecting to the Internet-of-things for monitoring purposes. Furthermore, the product electrical characteristics will be enhanced to provide an extra level of protection as well as the enclosure will be redesigned in such a way to facilitate the installation between electrical panels often located in space-limited sites and to keep the connected lead lengths to a minimum.

iShowerhead

The Smart Showerhead will deliver a fully controllable and customizable showering experience that requires minimal maintenance.  Our unique design brings temperature control, water mode control, informational usage log, and the best feature is that it would use an energy harvesting system to generate power for its main components.

Project Bender

This project is the attempt of three electrical engineering students to bring convenience

and modernity, to a single end user at a time. Our dispenser is aimed at the average, blue

collar, working man. It is imperative that we maintain the functionality of well known

dispensers, while adding the ability of hands free conguration, all for a signicantly lower

price point.

Pros Generator

The PRO-S Generator is a complete, mobile charging system for portable electronics. Our product has two modes; Throwable, and Wind Turbine. In “Throwable” mode, users can play a game of catch to generate electricity. In "Wind Turbine" mode, the PRO-S generator attaches to structures, using a universal clamp, and generates electricity using the wind. In all modes the energy generated is stored in a removable USB-compatible battery pack.

The purpose of this project is to design a potentially marketable product using the knowledge gained while attending the University. It emphasizes the use of principles and strategies learned over the years as an undergrad Electrical Engineering student.
